Professor Josh

Program Director/Primary Instructor

Josh 'Bodmon' Sequeira is an IBJJF certified black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Marco Costa. He began his martial arts journey at the age of 9, taking up ITF Taekwon-do, and pursuing it at the highest level possible. It was through this experience that Josh learned that he wanted to be a teacher, and set the goal of one day opening a martial arts academy. At the age of 19, Josh began training jiu jitsu, a long-term goal of his. Over the years, he had the opportunity to learn from 3 incredible instructors: Professor Stew Landry (Eris MA/10th Planet JJ Peterborough), Professor Richard ‘Monkey' Nancoo (Troop MMA Sudbury), and of course Professor Marco Costa (Yorkdale Martial Arts/Body of Four HQ Toronto). Over the years, Josh travelled the world pursuing jiu jitsu, competing and officiating in high level tournaments, learning in top notch academies, and sharing his knowledge wherever he could, while sharpening his teaching skills. Today Josh opens his own academy as an established Black Belt Professor, a respected athlete, official, and coach.

Coach Christine

Assistant Instructor

Christine Sequeira is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Marco Costa. Her martial arts experience began when she was 7, practicing Karate to compliment her experience in gymnastics. While her time in Karate was short lived, she maintained an active and healthy lifestyle, as she enjoyed soccer and dance, and focused primarily on her studies. It wasn't until she met Josh, that she considered pursuing jiu jitsu. Christine is a full time ICU Nurse, but finds time to keep up with her training, and compete when she can. She brings a great energy to the mats and is a huge support of her husband, Professor Josh, when he teaches classes or seminars. On their travels together, Christine has had some unique jiu jitsu experiences, getting to train in various special parts of the world including Southern California, Arizona and Texas in the United States, São Paulo and Brasilia in Brazil, and even Mumbai, India!

Some of Christine’s competitive accomplishments include:

  • CJA Canadian National Champion (Masters Blue Belt 2024)

Val

Academy Co-Ordinator

Val Sequeira is the ‘Academy Dad.’ He brings some unique skills to the table from a career in municipal finance and will be here to assist students and parents with day-to-day administrative needs.

Val began his martial arts journey alongside his son Josh, in Taekwon-do. Together, the two earned their black belts, and later became the first father and son duo to win the ITF Canadian Nationals in their respective age categories in the same year - Val as a “veteran” and Josh as a “junior”. Val has competed in numerous Taekwon-do tournaments, and also represented Canada at the ITF Veterans World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he won a team bronze medal. Today he looks forward to training on the mats, and enhancing your experience at Wavebreaker Jiu Jitsu Academy.
